-
- Do not overestimated AKIKO. AKIKO has slight advanatges if
-
- -running on a chiponly machine doing 1x1 c2p
- -doing kind of gfx that need very little time to render
-
- Now the main advantage of AKIKO
-
- - best method to do c2p when beeing a PC lamer company that
- just wants to get $$$ with doing a quick & dirty port of a game.
-
-
- Note:
- for things like c2p conversion on doom you don't need AKIKO.
-
- On chiponly machines, you would do 2x2 conversion.
- Damn fast 2x2/ 2x1 modi can be done using the blitter, and
- they are faster than AKIKO (2x2 outzoom for free by blitter
- & copper).
-
- AGA 2x2 got no disadvantages vs a 020 doing 2x2 on a mega-chunky
- gfx-card.
-
-
- Conclusion:
-
- The nessesary c2p conversion is no excuse for chunky games
- that run too slow. Don't trust lazy software companies.
-
- Yes, the Amiga is still not being used to potential, especially
- in chunky games.
-
- I measured timings for gloomdeluxe demo, it was about factor
- 2 slower to what seems to be possible.
-
- BTW a A1200+fastmem or CD32+sx1 fastmem doing doom gets
- chuny to planar version FOR FREE! (ayway the doom clone
- runs on FASTMEM almost 2 times faster even if they did
- bad c2p).
-
- While doom scenery is rendered in fastmem, blitter has
- enough time to do the conversion, so cpu needs to do
- no conversion at all.
-
- This method is faster than using AKIKO, BTW.
